Interrupting Podcasts - A Note From the Heart
This week I was set to share with you Episode 7 of Quarantine Conversations with the delightful Brooke Seiz. She's an incredible Functional Nutrition Practitioner and I am eager for you to hear our conversation!
However, as I was putting the final touches on the newsletter today, it simply did not feel right to share my regularly scheduled content with you as if I'm operating as business as usual. The reality is it has been challenging week and it is clear for communities everywhere in our country that business is not operating as usual.
I am going to hold off in sharing the episode until next week. Instead, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the pain and importance of this time we are experiencing as a nation.
My hope is you read my thoughts with a lens of compassion.
As a Coach, it is never my place to advise out of turn or to deflect what you may be personally experiencing.
Additionally as a Coach, I have a responsibility to always be growing and showing up as my fullest self. If I am not "walking the talk" when it comes to integrity and transparency, then I am not fit to support others to do the deep work in their own lives.
--------------------------------------------
There are many people out there hurting...you may be one of them.
I see your pain and want to be sure I am saying loud and clear that I will do whatever I can to be anti-racist and support my brothers and sisters in the Black community.
I recognize that racism, inequality, and discrimination still exist and I want no part in it.
I want to be a part of the change.
I am paying attention.
I want to invite you to pay attention and be a part of the change with me.
I'm committed to learning and listening.
The first step for me is more fully recognizing how I benefit from the protection of my skin color.
The second step for me is amplifying voices who are incredibly more knowledgeable and tuned-in to the issues of race.
The third step for me is to actively support this movement for meaningful change and equality (in person, with money, with partnerships, etc).
Your steps may look different - and that's great!
My encouragement and reminder to you (and to myself) is to not move about our days as 'business as usual' simply because the disparities and violence are not happening to my immediate community, my family, or my body.
I also realize there are dozens of people in my Lumina community who live in the Twin Cities and other locations where this IS front and center for your community, your family and your body. I am here for you.
I want you to know I am not opting-out.
I plan on being uncomfortable for awhile.
Magdalena Nowicka Mook, CEO of International Coach Federation recently wrote:
"As coaches, we know that change often begins in moments of discomfort. Change begins with tough conversations. Change begins when we open ourselves to feedback about where we are getting it wrong and to guidance on what we can do to get it right. We must act."
Again, I am here for you. If you need a safe space to unpack and explore your thoughts and emotions please don't be shy to find a time on my calendar .
To your wellness,
Samantha
